I am a believer in Jesus. (But hey! Hold on…don’t disregard this post if you are not. I am not trying to convert anyone.)
That proclamation can stir a lot of emotions. Sadly, some of those emotions are negative. But a true believer loves. It is the greatest commandment. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself. Unfortunately, these commandments seem to have fallen by the wayside.
I’ve noticed that we the people have slipped into so much self hatred that human life has lost its value. We have forgotten how to love our selves and in turn one another.
But!
As the world continues to spiral into dark and hostile directions there are movements of love beginning.
I’ve noticed,by watching outside of our traditional media, a ground swelling of people whom embrace the uniqueness of every human. Believing that differences in opinions, beliefs, and races are what make the world a beautiful place. I am one of those people. Additionally, others are encouraging a movement of self love, which, I for one believe is a necessary characteristic to be able to love others.
I’ve read some view points stating self love goes against what is taught in the Bible, but how can that be? If we love our Creator how can we question the works of His hands (that is us)? How can we question His love for others? We can’t. We are told to love Him, and love your neighbor as yourself. But if you do not love yourself then what kind of love can you give your neighbor? I think we see the answer playing out on the world stage.
I’ll admit self love cannot become our primary focus or it turns into an“all about me” scenario creating an even slipperier slope.
To truly make the world a better place we are to …regard one another more important than ourselves. Phil 2:3
Isn’t that beautiful?
We are to with all humility and gentleness, with patience bearing with one another in love, (Ephesians 4:2) and Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Phil 2:3-4
That is what glowing in the darkness is all about!
While I see the importance of loving oneself in the scope of having the ability to love freely on others
self love cannot be the most important movement.
Kindness done out of an abundance of love for our fellow human… now that is a movement!
